The drive it's transferring from probably makes a difference and an SSD should be somewhat faster than an HDD (since the bottleneck is still that SD card storage). When I last restored my library, it took less than 20 minutes which would be about 12-15 mb/second. I've never calculated the transfer speed for my Forma but I wouldn't call it slow. The time spent transferring/using the UI pales in comparison and the extra cost - maybe $25 - makes it unlikely that this would ever happen. Before you ask, an HDD is, of course, impractical and an SSD would improve transfer speed - and the UI - but not for the basic purpose of the device which is reading.
